Samyukta: Adding Sheen to EW System

India has got the capability to design and develop electronic warfare system for catering to the needs of the Armed Forces. While addressing the distinguished audience at the presentation of Samyukta Communi-cation Electronic Warfare Block at Electronics System Engineering Centre (ELSEC) of Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DERL) near Kanchanbagh in Hyderabad, President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has said that it was essential to synchronise salient features of Temporas of Air Force, Samyukta of Army and Sangraha of Navy to excel in electronic warfare. The Industry and DRDO should gear up to meet the requirements of Armed Forces by providing a life-time product support. Competitiveness should be the fundamental principle for technological development which includes cost effectiveness, quality and timely supply. Technology should serve the dual purpose of national security and economic development. He congratulated the scientists for developing the sophisticated electronic warfare system, Samyukta. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam formally presented the replica of Samyukta Communication EW Block to Gen NC Vij, Chief of the Army Staff at a glittering ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Defence Minister, Mr George Fernandes said that all necessary security measures have been taken to protect the motherland. India is capable of producing supersonic missile Brahmos, he added. While addressing the delegates present on the occasion, Gen NC Vij, Chief of the Army Staff said that it was a great day for the Indian Army to receive Samyukta. The two important components of Samyukta are acquisition of information of enemy and paralysing the enemy’s command and control system. "The entire credit goes to the scientists for developing this system", he added.

In his welcome address, Dr VK Aatre, Scientific Advisor to Defence Minister and Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development said Samyukta is the largest electronic warfare system demonstrated successfully by the Indian Army.

Samyukta is a joint venture of DRDO and Army operated on ground mobile vehicle. It covers high frequency to medium wave frequency range. The coverage of this electromagnetic spectrum of frequencies is done in two segments— communication segment and non- communication segement which are finally integrated with master control centre (MCC) through appropriate transmission stations. Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) have also been involved in the production.
