On
April 23 this year, 301 Station Workshop of the EME completed
fifty years of service. During these 50 years, the workshop
has participated in all the major operations against Pakistan
and China and recently played a distinctive role as the repair
and backup anchor of weapons and equipment deployed in
operation Vijay.
During operation Vijay,
the workshop managed to repair and keep the
electro-medical equipment in forward areas functional. Several
components/spares of the Bofors gun which were not available
ex import were fabricated successfully to maintain the combat
efficacy of the fighting arms.
The performance of
this unit in the counter-insurgency operations has been widely
commended. This workshop also undertakes extensive repair of
captured weapons and radio equipment which supplements the
fighting troops in the CI grid.
Not content with
providing professional support to their comrades in operations
and displaying their awareness to community responsibilities,
the personnel at the workshop also provide administrative and
security cover to the Army School at Srinagar.
The
workshop comprises about 225 all ranks and 85 civilian
workers, 1,400 vehicles, 10,600 units of telecom and
electro-medical equipment, 5,000 pieces of small arms, 31,500
pieces of miscellaneous instruments and 400 pieces of engineer
equipment. And such is the confidence in the competence of the
staff that a gate sign reads,"If not satisfied meet
CO".
