 The
AEC, under the patronage of the Colonel Commandant of AEC and
ADG AE Maj Gen MPS Tyagi, planned, organised and successfully
conducted a river rafting expedition in the river Ganges. The
volunteers assembled and started their training at Army White
Water Adventure Sports Nodal Centre, Raiwala. The expedition
was flagged off by the Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen
Chandrashekar, at the Army Headquarters in New Delhi. The team
comprised the leader of the team and 23 other members. The
expedition leader was Lt Col GS Mungali and the deputy leader
was capt SB Ghorpade. Maj SV Singh was the chief co-ordinator
of the expedition. The expedition was launched in two rafts
with eight paddlers in each raft. The distance of 122 km from
Srinagar to Rishikesh was covered in four legs.
This expedition
commenced when the water level of the Ganges had increased
substantially and it was raining continuously in the hills. In
this expedition once the raft was launched at Srinagar it was
not lifted even once before the completion of the schedule. No
rapid was bypassed even when the degree of difficulty faced
was high. It was the first time in the past eight years that
the raft neither flipped over nor was there any mishap.
On
the successful completion of the expedition the team was
welcomed at Virbhadra Barrage by Maj Gen MPS Tyagi. The Army
and the Corps Flag was handed over by the team leader to the
Colonel Commandant
