Commanders' Conference at SAC

A three-day conference of Air Force Station Commanders of Headquarters Southern Air Command was held at Thiruvananthapuram recently. The Air Chief Marshal AY Tipnis, Chief of Air Staff, while addressing the Commanders, exhorted them to be on full alert to face any eventualities and threats. The Air Chief deliberated upon the challenges to external and internal securities and emphasised the vital role of the Indian Air Force to meet these challenges. The Air Chief said that the inherent flexibility of air power provides the unique advantage of adapting to known plethora of exigencies and at the same time aligning to un-chartered challenges of the future. Talking of future conflicts, the Air Chief said that the offensive and defensive dominance of air power, not only against aerial threats, but also threats from land and sea, would be critical in the final outcome. In this context, he said that it would be the quality of the equipment and the men behind them which will count and not numerical strength.

Accordingly, the IAF is moving ahead vigorously with a clearly defined goal to modernise and equip itself to meet the challenges of the future, he added. Besides acquisition of modern weapon systems, the
Air Chief thrusted to improve conditions in the service in order to provide an optimised work ethos. Eventually, it is the quality of men and women of the Air Force irrespective of their branch, who will shape the future of the service, he said.

Earlier, welcoming the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal DS Basra, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, HQrs Southern Air Command gave a brief overview on the operational role and functioning of the Southern Air Command. The three-day conference was attended by all the Station and Unit Commanders of the Southern Air Command.
