  Indian Navy Honours Martyrs

The Indian Navy honoured and paid homage to all its naval brethren who made supreme sacrifice while defending the nation. To honour these martyrs, ceremonies were held at Command Headquarters at Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Kochi and Delhi.

A glittering ceremony was held at the Kohli Stadium, Navy Nagar in Mumbai to honour 74 personnel from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, UP and Karnataka. The ceremony commenced with laying of wreath at the Amar Jyoti by the seniormost next of kin (NOK),
Mrs Sudha Mulla wife of late Capt MN Mulla, and Vice Admiral Madhvendra Singh, FOC-in-C, Westen Naval Command. A badge of honour, scroll and cash award of rupees one lakh were presented to the next of kin. The fund required for the cash award was raised by voluntary contribution from serving naval personnel of the Indian Navy. In the afternoon the next of kin were taken to visit ships, establishments and museums. A colourful reception and a barakhana was held at Sagar, the sailors institute.

Since independence, the Indian Navy has taken part in various operations to maintain the territorial integrity of the country and safe guarding maritime assets including economic zone. Since independence many Naval personnel have made supreme sacrifice in the defence of the country.
