The
Indian Navy honoured and paid homage to all its naval brethren
who made supreme sacrifice while defending the nation. To
honour these martyrs, ceremonies were held at Command
Headquarters at Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Kochi and Delhi.
A glittering ceremony
was held at the Kohli Stadium, Navy Nagar in Mumbai to honour
74 personnel from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, UP and
Karnataka. The ceremony commenced with laying of wreath at the
Amar Jyoti by the seniormost next of kin (NOK),
Mrs Sudha Mulla wife of late Capt MN Mulla, and Vice Admiral
Madhvendra Singh, FOC-in-C, Westen Naval Command. A badge of
honour, scroll and cash award of rupees one lakh were
presented to the next of kin. The fund required for the cash
award was raised by voluntary contribution from serving naval
personnel of the Indian Navy. In the afternoon the next of kin
were taken to visit ships, establishments and museums. A
colourful reception and a barakhana was held at Sagar,
the sailors institute.
Since independence,
the Indian Navy has taken part in various operations to
maintain the territorial integrity of the country and safe
guarding maritime assets including economic zone. Since
independence many Naval personnel have made supreme sacrifice
in the defence of the country.
