  Reunion of the Rajput Regiment

The three-day eleventh post war reunion and the biennial conference of the Rajput Regiment was organised at its Centre in Fatehgarh.

The highlight of the celebration was the reunion dinner in which the veterans met their old colleagues and refreshed their memories of the past. Exchange of experiences between the old and the new generations sounded interesting.

Four retired English officers, Capt and Mrs SDM Ottowell, Capt and Mrs AC Barratt, Maj JL Mills and Maj RJ Wallace came all the way from UK to refresh their memories.

The barakhana was attended by retired officers and war widows. The special Sainik Sammelan was presided over by Lt Gen HS Bagga, Colonel of the Regiment. The gallant deeds of the martyrs of the Regiment who gave the supreme sacrifice and brought glory to the Regiment were recalled.

Earlier, at the attestation parade Maj AK Sharma administered the oath of allegiance to 217 recruits who on completion of their training were inducted as full-fledged soldiers of the Rajput Regiment. Lt Gen HS Bagga reviewed the parade and took salute at the march-past presented by the newly inducted soldiers.

The seventy-two year old Lt Gen RD Dayal (Retd) demonstrated his skill by jumping out from the para AN 32 from an altitude of 3000 ft during the para drop demonstration.

The Ganga Expedition and cycling expeditions which were launched from six different places across the country were flagged-in by Lt Gen HS Bagga. For the first time a dog show was organised in which nine dogs took part.
