Base Hospital Acquires Modern Equipment

For a layman, watching the human heart functioning on a computer and hearing the beat on the sound box of the system makes him wonder-struck at the marvels of science. But when Lt Col Rajat Dutta, the cardiologist, took out his findings on a print out and explained them it was evident that he had revealed some of the mysteries of the complex human body.

As a part of modernisation of the medical facilities in the North-East, the Base Hospital in Guwahati acquired a colour doppler and stress echo system. The equipment was installed as a part of non-invasive cardiac lab. Maj Gen I J S Bora inaugurated the system at the hospital. Brig Lakshmi Narayan, the Commandant of the hospital, said that it was the only one of its kind in the military hospitals in the North-East. Many cardiac cases which have to be treated in Kolkata or Delhi can now be treated at Guwahati.

In order to effectively dispose hospital wastes in consonance with the directions of the Supreme Court, an oil fired incinerator was also installed at the hospital. It is a two-stage waste disposal system which ensures that no contamination or pollution spreads into the atmosphere. This is the first of its kind in the military hospitals of the North-East.
