The Army has so far moved in more than 22,500 troops to rescue people and restore normalcy in the earthquake ravaged areas of Gujarat. Large scale rescue and relief operations undertaken by the Army continues at Bhuj, Anjar, Bachau, Gandhidham, Adnoi, Jamnagar, Nakatrana, Mundua, Mandvi, Morbi, Khavda, Samdhyali, Jodiyan, Dhrol, Sunder Nagar, Malvad, Umbdi in Bhuj area and Paldi, Naurang Pura, Sati area, Mani Nagar, Vasana, Ambawadi, Dhrangdhara, Vastarpura and Madhavpura in Ahmedabad sector. Troops from nine Infantry Battalions, one Field Artillery Regiment, three Air Defence Artillery Regiments and four Medium Artillery Regiments has been participating in operation Sahayata. Seven regiments of engineers with 2 Field Company and 7 Mobile Hospitals (Field Ambulances) manned by seven surgical teams, including three from Navy and two fully functioning hospitals at Bhuj and Ahmedabad have also been present in the earthquake affected areas. Two columns of men drawn from the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers and three helicopters of Army Aviation are also participating in the massive rescue and relief operations.

More than 10,800 surgeries have been performed by the Army surgeons and medical aid to more than fourteen thousand patients has also been provided. About four hundred serious patients from the earthquake site have been evacuated to various hospitals.

The Coast Guard ships and aircraft were also pressed into service for relief and rescue operations in Gujarat. The Coast Guard air units transported relief material and medicines and airlifted critically injured to the nearest medical facility. The Coast Guard ships with integral helicopter and medical teams provided a floating hospital and medicine dispensing platform.
