Raising Day Celebrations

The Thambi Tigers celebrated their millennium raising day recently. It was a landmark in the history of the regiment, as fifteen ex-officers including five ex-COs of the regiment joined the celebrations.

The millennium celebrations began with a sainik sammelan followed by wreath-laying ceremony. The sainik sammelan was addressed by some of the old CO’s and ex-officers of the unit. It was a touching journey down the memory lane, bringing back nostalgic moments of yester years. Regimental barakhana was organised in the evening. The Officers Mess function was hosted at Station Artillery Mess, Raiwala. Dinner at JCO’s Mess in which the Subedar Major played host to all the serving and retired officers of the Regiment was also organised on the occasion.

The 93 Field Regiment was raised at Haldwani on June 20, 1963, as a Compo Mountain Regiment (Towed). The class composition was South Indian, and it was equipped with 3.7" howtizer with which it fought the 1965 Indo-Pak war in Sialkot Sector.

The Thambi Tigers have the unique distinction of participating in every operation since its raising. In 1971, the unit was actively involved in the liberation of Bangladesh.

Thambi Tigers proved their mettle yet again in counter-insurgency operations in J & K. It is the proud recipient of COAS unit citation. BC/OP parties have participated in operations Meghdoot and Vijay.

The regiment has to its credit five Sena Medals, eight COAS Commendation Cards, three GOC-in-C Commendation Cards as also the COAS Unit Citation, GOC-in-C Northern Command Unit appreciation, DG Arty’s plaque and the GOC ‘V’ Forces’s banner.
