Indian Army Contingent on UN Mission

Recently the Indian Army contingent earmarked for United Nations Mission in Ethiopia - Eritrea (UNMEE) was seen off by Lt Gen RS Kadyan, DCOAS (T&C).

Indian Army had provided a contingent of 1549 personnel in UNMEE on commencement of the mission in March last year. The 27 Rajput has now been earmarked to relieve the first Indian contingent.

Indian Army has participated in various UN peacekeeping operations over the years and has performed creditably due to their professional conduct and even-handed approach in mission areas. Indian Army officers, JCOs and other ranks have even made supreme sacrifice while serving in UN peacekeeping operations.

The 27 Rajput, seleted to represent Indian Army in UNMEE, has a rich experience in counter-insurgency operations and acquitted itself creditably in operation Meghdoot in Siachen and operation Vijay in Kargil. The battalion has been awarded two COAS appreciations, Army Commander’s appreciation, J&K Governor’s Silver Salver, three Kirti Chakra, three Vir Chakra, four Shaurya Chakra and 18 Sena Medals besides other gallantry awards.

While addressing the troops,
Lt Gen Kadyan said that they were the chosen ones to carry the Indian spirit overseas. He was confident that they would return with flying colours.
