Surrender
Five
hardcore militants surrendered before Brig JS Mann, Commander, 77 Mountain
Brigade at Thakurbari in Sonitpur district of Assam. The surrendered
militants included one lady member of ULFA. The militants surrendered two
Chinese-made pistols, two hand-grenades and ten rounds of live ammunition.
Brig JS Mann, speaking on the
occasion, informed that the surrendered militants were totally
disillusioned with the misleading cause advocated by militant outfits.
They revealed that many cadres in militant groups have realised the
fallacy of their actions and are keen to surrender.
In another incident, the troops of
5 Assam Rifles under Red Horn Division recovered a huge cache of arms and
ammunition in Khelmati area under Tezpur subdivision. One 9 mm
Chinese-made pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition, .3 revolver, one
.1 bore double barrel gun and 206 rounds of 303 ammunition were seized.
Recruitment
Rally
A
recruiting team comprising four officers, six Junior Commissioned Officers
and 42 other Ranks of Assam Regimental Centre conducted a recruitment
rally at Kangla Fort, Imphal.
The rally was conducted for the
benefit of serving and retired personnel of Assam Regiment. Almost 5000
candidates took part in the rally. On this occasion, an officer from
Records, Assam Regiment solved the problems of retired personnel like
pension, revision of pension etc. Earlier, the Assam Regimental Centre had
also conducted a recruitment rally at Imphal in February last where 53
candidates were recruited in the Assam Regiment.
Medical
Camp
More
than 5000 villagers visited the Army medical camp organised in Upper Assam
by the troops of 2 Mountain Division. The medical camp inaugurated by Brig
AK Gulati, Commander, 181 Mountain Brigade, catered to the basic medical
needs of the local public.
GOC-in-C
Visits Gajraj Corps
Lt
Gen Jitendra Singh Varma, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command accompanied by Mrs
Meera Varma, President, Eastern Command, AWWA arrived at Tezpur on a
three-day visit to Gajraj Corps. He was received by Lt Gen Mohinder Singh,
GOC, Gajraj Corps and Air Cmde PK Barbora, AOC, Air Force Station, Tezpur.
During this visit, the GOC-in-C was briefed on the activities of the corps
and its achievements in counter-insurgency operations.
Mrs Meera Varma visited the Gajraj
Sainik Institutes opened recently, and interacted with the families of the
station.
Training
for NCC Cadets
Eleven
cadets of 66 Nagaland Girls Independent Company, NCC underwent training in
traffic control duties under the supervision of Mr NS Bundela, SP,
Mokokchung. The training was conducted for three days.
Ms Tiarenla Aier, a lecturer at
Fazal Ali College who co-ordinated the training, informed that the cadets
gained hands-on experience during the training. Mr Bundela said that it
was an extremely fruitful exercise and benefitted both police and the
cadets.

Commanding, 66 Nagaland Girls Independent Company NCC appreciated the
efforts made by the SP and his staff in conducting the training.
Shooting
Championship
Two
Mountain Division Inter- Infantry Battalion and Artillery Regiment Firing
Competition for selection of firers for National Combat Forces Shooting
Championship was conducted at Lekhapani under arrangements of 181 Mountain
Brigade. Ten teams participated in the highly competitive event. Maj Gen
HS Batra, GOC 2 Mountain Division visited the firing range to motivate the
teams.
The competition culminated with
prize distribution function. Brig AK Gulati, Commander 181 Mountain
Brigade gave away prizes to the winners of the competition. Sixteen
Grenadiers won the competition with a huge margin. The enthusiasm and the
shooting skills displayed by the shooters of Dah Division were appreciated
by all.
Ugrah
Vihar Housing Complex
Lt
Gen Avtar Singh, GOC, 33 Corps inaugurated a new housing complex for the
jawans of Sukna Military Station at Siliguri.
The Ugrah Vihar consists of 30
dwelling units in an eco-friendly environment. The project costing
approximately Rs 1.25 crore was completed under the Fast Track scheme.
The construction was completed in a record time of one year. The
inauguration was followed by a tree plantation.
The housing complex has been named
after Late Lance Nk Ram Ugrah Pandey of 8 Guards who was awarded Maha
Vir Chakra posthumously during 1971 war. The jawan had killed three
enemy soldiers and destroyed three enemy bunkers before he attained
martyrdom.
