A
state-of-the-art dual head gamma camera has been installed at Command
Hospital, Pune by Maj Gen DP Asthana, Deputy Director, Medical Services,
Southern Command in the presence of Maj Gen GC Boruah, Commandant of the
hospital.
Lt Col PG Kumar who is in charge of
the Nuclear Medicine Centre of the hospital said that the centre has been
receiving more than 150 cases a month which requires sophisticated
diagnostic and therapeutic services. Till recently, such cases were
referred to private hospitals in Mumbai or Delhi. The newly acquired
camera would now facilitate treatment. No other hospital in the country is
equipped with such camera, other than military hospitals in Pune,
Bangalore, Calcutta and INS Aswini in Mumbai.
As the camera has two heads, the
patient needs only half of the time to be on the camera as compared to the
conventional ones. Four doctors and an equal number of technicians were
imparted training in the US to enable them handle this sophisticated
facility.
