A
joy that could have sprung only from the heart of Karnail Singh reflected
in his eyes as the Indian Army engineers constructed a bridge over Naumuni
Nullah in Gurdaspur district Punjab. Karnail Singh was one among a
large number of local people who were rejoicing over the construction of
the bridge. Panchayat heads from Kalanaur, Dorangla and Dostpur
thanked Army engineers who had worked day and night.
During
heavy rains the land of farmers across the nullah becomes
inaccessible causing heavy damage to crops leading to financial loss. The
bridge over Naumuni Nullah goes a long way in resolving the
recurring financial losses to the local public.
The
construction of bridge was started in November last year. Despite increase
in water level of Naumuni Nullah and intermittent heavy rains, the
Army Engineers constructed the bridge in a record time setting an
excellent example of civil-military liaison.
