Two
Mahar, one of the war veteran battalions of the Indian Army, celebrated
its diamond jubilee at Pangode Military Station. The battalion had
received several war honours for its participation in World War II,
Indo-Pak wars and recent operations like Vijay and Parakram.
The
three-day diamond jubilee celebrations commenced with a solemn wreath
laying ceremoy. First to pay homage was Gen KV Krishna Rao (Retd), former
Governer of J&K. On the occasion, a commemorative parade was presented
by 2 Mahar Regiment. The other important functions included the
termination of the All Kerala Adventure Cycle Expedition and a colourful
pageant.
The
chief guest for the show was Maj Gen KS Sivakumar, GOC 54 Infantry
Division. Gen KV Krishna Rao (Retd) unveiled the Diamond Jubilee Trophy
and released the video stills of the battlion's tenure in Siachen Glaciar.
The celebrations culminated with the audience giving an standing ovation
to Deshon Ka Sartaj, a tune by the Regiment Band.
