As
a part of operation Sadbhavana, Trishul Division has been taking
many steps to provide assistance to those living in the remote areas of
Ladakh region. The aim is to improve the socio-economic conditions and
make the residents feel proud of being Indian. The Division focussed on
primary and adult education, women empowerment, medical care, community
development, computer literacy and technical education.
Trishul Division has established
Army Goodwill Schools and Adult Literacy Centres. The Division has been
providing mid-day meals and transport to students. Fee concession and
uniforms are also provided to children from poor families. Scholarships
are awarded to bright students.
A working women hostel has been
established by the Division at Leh for girls and women who come to Leh to
pursue advance studies and employment. The inmates enjoy modern living
conditions at a very nominal cost.
An important aspect of operation Sadbhavana
is the extension of medical care to remote areas. Medical aid centres
for the local public with state-of-the-art equipment have been
established. Medical camps are conducted in remote areas. Whenever
required, the patients are evacuated by helicopters and aircraft free of
charges for further treatment at Chandigarh and Delhi.
Trishul
Division has also undertaken community development and border area
development projects. The projects included establishment of community
halls, provision of telephones, cable television and internet facilities.
Establishment of apricot oil biscuit and noodle factories, dairy and
poultry farming, drilling of borewells and installation of hand pumps are
also being undertaken. Improvement, constrution and maintenance of roads,
tracks and culverts also form part of this operation. Ration, clothing,
kerosene oil and bukharis have been provided to the poor and needy
villagers.
