Diving School is located within the scenic naval base at Kochi. The school, established in 1954 as a wing of the Anti Submarine School, became an independent unit under the wings of INS Venduruthy in May 1971. Since then, it has been churning out brave `Men of Honour'. It is the nodal point for diving training in India for the defence personnel including those from friendly foreign countries. On May 1, 1982 Diving School was accorded a Cat `A' status.

The school conducts an 11-week commercial diving course since 1998. Training is as per the syllabi laid down by HSE part I. The course fee is Rs 92,000. The qualification is valid in India and these divers are absorbed by ONGC and offshore installations.

Diving cadre has always been the pride of the Navy. This awesome cadre has been the envy of everyone else in the Navy. Many a young personnel wish to join the school lured purely by the exuberance, enthusiasm and camaraderie synergised by the aura of a macho image synonymous with a diver.

Special operations and Marine Commando Force (MCF) covert and clandestine operations are the offensive edge of the service rightfully placed in the forefront of the professional ambit. MCF deployment for operation Rakshak in the thick of counter insurgency operations is winning laurels and glory to the service. These men are christened as "sharks in water and tigers on land".
