The passing-out parade of the Matric Entry Recruits (MER), Non-Matric Entry Recruits (NMER) of the Indian Navy and Navik (General Duty) of the Indian Coast Guard was held at INS Chilka. Earlier, a colourful valedictory function was held at Chilka Auditorium in which the recruits presented a spectacular programme with zeal and enthusiasm. Chief Minister of Orissa, Mr Navin Patnaik, who was the chief guest, reviewed the parade and presented awards. He also released the Chilka Journal.

Altogether 1,972 trainees comprising 1,718 MERs, 163 NMERs and 191 Naviks passed out successfully after completing a 24-week training. The training included class room instructions as well as outdoor and waterborne activities. The recruits got exposed to various adventurous activities like route march, sailing expedition to Rambha and Chilka Lake Mouth, outdoor camps, weapon firing and lake swimming. The regimental aspects of training like drill, cross-country, seamanship and troop games were brought to a special focus. These trainees are now undergoing professional courses at various training schools which will enable them man frontline ships, submarines and air squadrons of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.

The valedictory function was also witnessed by Rear Admiral KN Sushil, Flag Officer Submarines, Eastern Naval Fleet and other service and civilian dignitaries.
