Rafting Regale

A five-member team of the Eastern Naval Command undertook ‘White Water Rafting Expedition’ on the river Bhagirathi from Rudraprayag to Rishikesh. The expedition is a regular activity at the command to promote adventure and esprit de corps among the Naval personnel.

The expedition was flagged off by Rear Admiral KN Sushil, Flag Officer Submarines. Equipped with necessary camping and rafting gear, the team reached Shivkashi for the basic training in handling of the associated gear and life-saving equipment and manoeuvring in strong currents of a river.

The base camp was established at Devprayag. The team completed nearly 145 kms of rafting in the downstream of the river during which the team manoeuvred various rapids including "Wall", "Daniel’s Dip", "Blind Mice" and "Roller Coaster". Out of 15 rafting teams that attempted to cross the "Wall" in this season, only the Naval team navigated it successfully. The team experienced highly challenging and adventurous moments associated with rafting. The team members interacted with various people enroute and spread the message of goodwill and harmony. The expedition was led by
Lt Cdr MR Dagar.
