One Advance Base Workshop

One Advance Base Workshop is the premier EME organisation in the entire North-East. It undertakes the base overhaul of vehicles and other allied equipment of the Eastern Army. This elite workshop, raised in Allahabad in 1962, was shifted to Narangi in April 1963. It has been providing effective base overhaul and engineering support to the field formations of the Eastern Command, both during operations and peace. The workshop achieved an exceptionally high output during the year 1999-2000, with a capacity utilisation of 140 per cent.

The workshop also added another feather to its cap when it was granted the right and licence to be listed in the Bureau of Indian Standards register of Licensees of Quality Systems certification. It is the first fully licensed IS/ISO 9002:1994 unit of the Indian Army. This distinction was achieved by the diligent and persistent efforts of all ranks, past and present, in setting and adhering to stringent standards of quality.

As a part of welfare activities, a Vocational Training Centre and Computer Training Centre are run for ladies and children of all ranks and ex-servicemen. The workshop also runs an Asha School for mentally and physically challenged children of the serving soldiers and ex-servicemen. Brig TS Sekhon is the present Commandant (Chief Executive) of this Base Workshop.
