A three-day Army Postal Philately Exhibition, (Apphilex-2001, was held at the Rhino Officers' Institute, Shillong. The exhibition was organised by the Army Postal Service under the aegis of HQ 101 Area and was inaugurated by Maj Gen I J S Bora, GOC, 101 Area. The exhibition carried focus on Eastern Command Day, Environment Day and Area Day.

In his inaugural address, Maj Gen Bora said that with the passage of time, the use of stamps in the fast changing world of internet, e-mails and telecommunication is likely to reduce. He also released a special cover and booklet on philately on the occasion. Over 1490 entries from 28 schools participated in the exhibition. The three-day exhibition included a special workshop for schoolchildren, a quiz on philately and an audio-visual gallery.
