A
continuing medical education (CME) programme on geriatric diseases was
held at the Western Command Hospital in Chandimandir.
The two-day programme was
inaugurated by Lt Gen Surjit Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief,
Western Command by lighting a lamp.
In his address, Lt Gen Surjit Singh
laid stress on the need to provide better medical care to the elderly
people in the society. He said such programmes would help the
practitioners to keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in the
field of medicine. He expressed the hope that both the participants and
the faculty would be benefited from the CME.
Welcoming the GOC-in-C and the
delegates, Maj Gen Pratap Dayal, Commandant of the Hospital said that the
aim of this CME programme was to discuss how to provide better medical
care to those suffering from geriatric diseases and other old age
problems. He informed that at present ageing in our country sets in at the
age of 60 which is expected to go upto 70 years by the year 2030.
A professional journal was released
to mark the occasion. The keynote address was delivered by Maj Gen P
Subhas, Commandant, Army Hospital (R&R) Delhi who is also an eminent
cancer surgeon working on the burning issue of organ preservation in
cancer. The programme was well attended by delegates from various fields
of medicine including medical and nursing officers, specialists from Armed
Forces and Civilian medical fraternity.
