A
multi-dimensional expedition was carried out by officers and jawans of 13
Engineer Regiment under the aegis of 475 Engineer Brigade. The team was
led by Maj SK Singh of 13 Engineer Regiment which comprised two officers,
three junior commis-sioned officers and eight Other Ranks.
The expedition started from Bhaksar
in Barmer district and ended at Nasirabad in Ajmer district after covering
1051 kms on foot, cycles and camels. The aim of the expedition was to
inculcate the spirit of adventure and to carry the Army flag into the
interiors of Rajasthan. Other aims of the expedition were to generate
environment awareness, understand history and culture of Rajasthan and
increase the perseverance of all participants. It was organised to enable
the troops from South India to have an insight into the socio-economic
milieu of Rajasthan.
The
expedition team camped at various border villages here and interacted with
the villagers. The expedition involved 856 kms of cycling, 21 kms of
trekking and 174 kms of camel ride— all along the border and Indira
Gandhi Canal upto Bikampur from where the team started its journey back to
Nasirabad via Jodhpur.
On reaching Nasirabad, the
expedition team was welcomed by Col Hardeep Dhanny, Commanding Officer, 13
Engineer Regiment. The chief guest on the occasion was Brig YR Mandiratta,
Commander, 475 Engineer Brigade.
Brig
YR Mandiratta, in his welcome speech, congratulated the team on completion
of the expedition successfully and stressed upon the need of such
expeditions in future to bring out the spirit of adventure among junior
leaders.
