13 JAK LI in action : Men of Mettle

Thirteenth battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI) assumed operational responsibility along the Line of Control (LOC) in high altitude areas somewhere in Northern Sector in September 2002. Since then, the battalion has been performing its operational tasks in an exemplary manner, which has resulted in thwarting the actions of the enemy along the LOC and tilting the scales in its favour. The battalion has performed creditably well causing colossal destruction to enemy's field defences, administrative installations, kerosene oil dumps and other materials.

The performance of the battalion in this area, despite the inclement weather, has been of an exceptionally high order. It has excelled in an outstanding manner by its relentless attacks on all enemy posts.

During its tenure of one year, 13 JAK LI had the privilege of receiving many dignitaries including Defence Minister, Mr George Fernandes, two Army Commanders and a number of senior officials.

The battalion has also contributed immensely towards bringing in development and harmony in this remote region by carrying out military civic action programmes under operation Sadbhavna. For its gallant action, the battalion won one Sena Medal, nine COAS commendation cards and two GOC-in-C commendation cards.
