The
Military Engineer Service (MES) completed the construction of
Department of Defence (DAD) residential complex in Chennai six
months ahead of schedule and also saved an amount of rupees 25
lakhs in the project cost. This unique feat of the MES was
commended by Gen S Padmanabhan, Chief of the Army Staff who
inaugurated the residential complex. The COAS also planted a
sapling on the occasion.
The
MES is the largest construction agency. It builds barracks and
high-rise buildings of highest quality. The structures put up
by the MES are cost effective and stable. The earth quake in
Gujarat during January this year proved the quality of the MES
works when the structures put up by it withstood the
onslaught, said Brig K S Rampuria, Chief Engineer Chennai
Zone. He also read the project report. He informed that the
complex has 79 quarters for all categories of staff except
group ‘A’. The Brigadier said that a facility to escape
from the mosquito menace has also been incorporated as a
special feature in all the houses.
The
Controller of Defence Accounts, Chennai, Mr P K Das in his
welcome address said that there was a plan to create a
community hall to enhance the quality of life of the staff who
would be occupying the quarters. He said that staff of the
Defence Accounts Department working in Chennai, Avadi and
Tambaram would be benefitted.
Mr N Gopalan, Controller
General of Defence Accounts, Maj Gen V Jayashankar, GOC, ATNKK
& C Area and other senior officers were present on the
occasion.
