The
Indian Army has a long standing tradition of encouraging the spirit of
adventure among its personnel and has often been a pioneering role model
for promoting adventure sports in the country. In keeping with this
tradition, an Engineer Regiment under the aegis of Gajraj Corps
conducted a trekking expedition from Burma to Bhutan, covering a distance
of 1500 kms.
A
total of twentytwo personnel of the regiment, led by Lt Anthony Selva
Kumar participated in the expedition. The team started their expedition
from the eastern end of Arunachal Pradesh at Jachepla near Burma border.
It trekked over extremely difficult terrain and under inclement weather
conditions to reach the western end of Arunachal Pradesh near Bhutan. They
covered a total distance of 1500 kms in 50 days passing through Walong,
Lohitpur, Along, Daparijo, Nyapix, Nafra and Tawang.
On
successful completion of the expedition, the team was felicitated at a
flagging-in ceremony by Maj Gen C B Vijan, GOC, Ball of Fire Division. The
team Commander handed over the flags of the formation to the GOC
signifying the end of their expedition. Maj Gen Vijan congratulated the
team on successfully completing the expedition and appreciated the
dedication and determination of the team members. He further said that
will power and camaraderie are essential for success, especially during
hostile conditions.
The GOC was proud to see such esprit
de corps and josh from the team, and hoped that the same would
be displayed in any operational task given to the Ball of Fire Division.
