  DSC: Ideal Re-Employment for Ex-Servicemen
   
 

The Defence Security Corps (DSC) provides security cover to various Defence/Armed Forces installations. Only ex-servicemen are employed by the Defence Security Corps. The ex-servicemen should have previously served as Junior Commissioned Officer/equivalent ranks in Navy/Air Force and should have a minimum of 3 years embodied service and 7 annual training camps for JCOs of Territorial Army.

The candidates should be below 50 years of age for Naib Subedar and Subedar and below 52 years of age for Subedar Major. They should possess Army Third Class English and Army First Class Certificate of Education or a Matriculation certificate.

The candidates should have been assessed for character at the time of discharge from former service not below ‘very good’ for Naib Subedar and ‘exemplary’ for Subedar and Subedar Major. The date of re-employment should be within five years from date of retirement from former service.

To find an employment as an OR in DSC, one should have minimum of 5 years previous colour service and a minimum of 3 years embodied service for TA personnel with 7 annual training camps. The candidates should be below 45 years of age for Sepoys and Naiks and below 47 years of age for Havildars to be enrolled only under lateral entry system as Havildars. Those Havildars enrolled as Sepoys should be below 45 years of age. They should possess Army Third Class Certificate of Education or equivalent for Sepoy and Naik and Army Second Class Certificate of Education or equivalent for Havildar.

The ex-servicemen should have been assessed for character at the time of discharge from former service not below ‘very good’. They should be in medical category ‘AYE’ and the date of re-employment should be within 5 years of retirement from former service.

The Other Ranks desirous of seeking enrolment into DSC must contact their Regimental Centre or nearest Recruiting Office. The Junior Commissioned Officers and their equivalents in Navy, Air Force and TA must apply through their Record Office as per AO 620/65 to Deputy Directorate General DSC, General Staff Branch, Army Headquarters, West Block-III, R K Puram, New Delhi-110066

The period of engagement for Sepoys is an initial term of engagement of 10 years extendable by 5 years at a time till 57 years of age, whichever is earlier. For JCOs/NCOs it is an initial term of engagement of 5 years extendable by 5 years at a time till 57 years of age, whichever is earlier and for lateral entry Subedar Majors, an initial term of engagements of 4 years or till 57 years of age, whichever is earlier.

Under the revised terms of gratuity and pension, the DSC personnel will continue to draw military pension and retain DCRG, in which case their former military service shall not count as qualifying service. They will be entitled to second pension and DCRG, if service in DSC is 15 years or more. They will also be entitled to service gratuity and DCRG, if they serve in DSC for a period of 5 to 15 years.

If the candidates desire to count their previous military service, they will cease to draw pension and also refund the service gratuity including DCRG, if any.

In addition to pay, the DSC personnel will continue to get DA, CCA and other allowances as applicable. They are also entitled to DA which is admissible on pension as well as DSC pay, 45 days annual leave and 15 days casual leave, leave travel concession/free medical treatment for self and dependents, hair cutting/cleaning and washing allowances, children education allowances/re-imbursement of tuition fees, free rations and other amenities, Army group insurance cover for Rs 3,75,000 on a contribution of Rs 275 per month, benefits from AWWA relief fund and benefits from education scholarship scheme.

Scholarships are also given to the children of DSC JCOs/OR on the basis of marks scored. The scholarships ranges from Rs 500 per annum at school level, Rs 1000 per annum at college level to Rs 2000 per annum at post graduate level.

The DSC provides a gainful employment with dignity to the ex-servicemen with reasonable financial benefits.
