Assam Rifles in Nagaland: Advances into the Interior

Assam Rifles units in Nagaland, under the stewardship ofMaj Gen R N Kapur, Inspector General Assam Rifles, have been doing a yeoman service in maintaining peace in the picturesque state. The units, deployed all over the state, have been effectively combating insurgency and assisting the government in developmental projects. The sound intelligence network and continuous guidance of commanders at all levels enables the units to catch anti-national elements engaged in extortion and tax collection.

The Assam Rifles which celebrated 166 years of its raising on March 23 last, ensures a strict enforcement of ceasefire while preventing clashes between various factions. Free medical examination and other facilities are also provided to the locals. Various welfare projects like adoption of villages, construction of water tanks and bus sheds and computer training are also being organised for the development of Nagaland. For generating employment for the youth of Nagaland, a training for prospective recruits is also organised. To promote self-employment, assistance to run piggery poultry and vegetable garden is being provided. Rain-water harvesting methods are also being taught to the locals to overcome the shortage of water.
