Chief of the Staff, US Army Visits India

Gen Eric K Shinseki, Chief of the Staff, US Army visited India from February 2 to 4 last.

Accompanied by his wife, Mrs Praticia Kasumi Shinseki and a five-member delegation, the Chief of the Staff, US Army was received by Gen NC Vij, Chief of the Army Staff at the Palam Technical Area.

Gen Eric K Shinseki started engagements on February 3 with laying a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti. He was joined by Gen NC Vij in paying homage to martyrs. Later, he was given a ceremonial guard of honour by a contingent of 7 Rajputana Rifles at South Block.

The visiting dignitary called on Defence Minister, Mr George Fernandes and Service Chiefs. He was briefed on India’s security concerns in the backdrop of emerging situation all over the world. Gen Shinseki also discussed matters of mutual interest with Gen NC Vij.

Later, Gen Shinseki participated in a banquet hosted by Gen NC Vij. It was also attended by senior Army officers and officers from Ministry of Defence.

Gen Shinseki left for Phillipines on February 4 and was see-off by Lt Gen OS Lohchab, Director General, Military Intelligence.
