A
Model Village Near LoC
Krishana
Ghati Brigade, as part of operation Sadbhavna, has been making a
concerted effort to reach out to the local residents in insurgency-hit
areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. A model
village, Sagra in Punch, has been raised with an outlay of Rs 58 lakh
under this operation. The aim was to provide the local public basic
amenities like education, health, electricity and water along with
self-employment opportunities.
The village has
been a major success story under operation Sadbhavana. Recently it
was visited by the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Lt Gen SK Sinha (Retd),
accompanied by Lt Gen Ashok Kapur, GOC 16 Corps, Maj Gen AS Sekhon and
Brig VK Patil. The Governor also visited Sagra Model Academy where he
interacted with the children. The Governor later visited various
vocational training centres being run at the village and was extremely
appreciative of the efforts put in. These include training in carpentry,
motor mechanics, driving, computers, embroidery, knitting and tailoring.
The Governor also visited medical and veterinary dispensaries at Sagar.

Child Saved
Mohammed
Firoz, a 12 year-old boy from Firauna village in Kargil district, was
suffering from heart ailment which required an immediate medical
attention. The boy’s father Ghulam Abbas, a farmer, could not afford the
expensive treatment.
This is where
the medical fraternity of Southern Command stepped in. The boy was sent to
Pune from Kargil by the Brigade Commander and was hospitalised at Military
Hospital (Cardiothoracic Centre), Pune. He underwent cardiac surgery in
January this year where his congenital heart anamoly and defective heart
valve were treated by a team of cardiac surgeons under the supervision of
Col M Luthra.
Thanks to the Indian Army, the
boy suffers no longer.
Costume
Carnival
When
the tall and elegant dames walked down with macho men setting ablaze the
ramp at the Dhanwantri Auditorium of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC)
Pune, Indian ethnic costumes stole the show and proved that they indeed
represent the rich traditions of the country.
The
inter-college fashion show christened Haute Wave was organised as a
part of the Silhouettes-2004 by the medicos of AFMC. A rich blend
of sports, fine arts and literary and cultural events, Silhouettes
has been bringing out the latent talent of the AFMC medicos ever since it
was started 37 years ago. The fashion show propelled by a fine blend of
music and choreography was presented before a packed audience of Armed
Forces, students, cadets and civilian dignitaries.
The three-hour
show was divided into three rounds-ethnic, seasons and innovation.
Eight city colleges participated in the show that showcased the talent of
the youngsters in its pristine form. While the ethnic round was dedicated
to traditional Indian fashion, seasons was a tribute to nature’s
many splendoured colours and innovation giving enough scope for
creativity. On the whole, the show enthralled the audience.
The best team
award was bagged by the Maharashtra Institute of Technology while Ms Tanvi
from the same institute was adjudged the best female model. Mr Sameer from
Army Institute of Technology got the best male model award. Mrs Indu Rai,
wife of Lt Gen R Rai, Director and Commandant of AFMC gave away the
prizes.
