Entertainment Galore

A variety entertainment programme was the highlight of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Air Force School, Udhampur, followed by a prize distribution ceremony. Gp Capt AK Sachdev was the chief guest at the function.

The celebrations commenced with a welcome song which was followed by the popular ghumar dance of Haryana. A skit based on the popular tale of Cinderella followed the spirited song. Dressed in traditional costumes, the children presented another martial song followed by a Kashmiri folk dance by young girls. Later, a Bengali song and dance tuned to Rabinder Sangeet with graceful movements enthralled the audience. Boys dressed in spotless white vests and trousers gyrated to a classic Kashmiri folk tune which swayed the audience.

A bubbling dance depicting the jubilant celebration of Holi in Rajasthan was the next item followed by a Yeh Kashmir Hamara Hai! Ham Kakbhi na denge Ye Kashmir. A qauwali was performed with professional finesse and charged the hall with emotion.

A solo dance by Abha dressed in a red and green lehnga and red kurta with golden zari work was a treat to the eyes. The young talent of this amateur dancer impressed the spectators. A comedy titled "Don’t Call your children by a nick Name" had a message for all adults. The garba followed by a recital of a poem by Santosh on the earthquake in Bhuj filled the audience with the memories of the catastrophe.

The penultimate item was the effervescent giddha of Punjab which had the participants swaying to the folk music and the audience tapping their toes to the catchy rhythm. The grand finale was an exhibition of the martial arts by the students of karate class. Gp Capt AK Sachdev felicitated all staff and students on the occasion. He congratulated the school for its steady progress from a humble beginning to its present state. He also expressed the hope that it would soon become one of the best schools in Udhampur.

Principal, Mrs Usha Kaul read out, the annual report outlining the multifarious activities of the school during the year. Then followed a much anticipated prize distribution, watched with avid interest by proud parents of the prize-winning students. Gp Capt Sachdev presented the prizes.
