A
variety entertainment programme was the highlight of the silver jubilee
celebrations of the Air Force School, Udhampur, followed by a prize
distribution ceremony. Gp Capt AK Sachdev was the chief guest at the
function.
The celebrations commenced with a
welcome song which was followed by the popular ghumar dance of
Haryana. A skit based on the popular tale of Cinderella followed the
spirited song. Dressed in traditional costumes, the children presented
another martial song followed by a Kashmiri folk dance by young girls.
Later, a Bengali song and dance tuned to Rabinder Sangeet with
graceful movements enthralled the audience. Boys dressed in spotless white
vests and trousers gyrated to a classic Kashmiri folk tune which swayed
the audience.
A
bubbling dance depicting the jubilant celebration of Holi in
Rajasthan was the next item followed by a Yeh Kashmir Hamara Hai! Ham
Kakbhi na denge Ye Kashmir. A qauwali was performed with
professional finesse and charged the hall with emotion.
A solo dance by Abha dressed in a
red and green lehnga and red kurta with golden zari work was
a treat to the eyes. The young talent of this amateur dancer impressed the
spectators. A comedy titled "Don’t Call your children by a nick
Name" had a message for all adults. The garba followed by a
recital of a poem by Santosh on the earthquake in Bhuj filled the audience
with the memories of the catastrophe.
The penultimate item was the
effervescent giddha of Punjab which had the participants swaying to
the folk music and the audience tapping their toes to the catchy rhythm.
The grand finale was an exhibition of the martial arts by the students of
karate class. Gp Capt AK Sachdev felicitated all staff and students on the
occasion. He congratulated the school for its steady progress from a
humble beginning to its present state. He also expressed the hope that it
would soon become one of the best schools in Udhampur.
Principal, Mrs Usha Kaul read out,
the annual report outlining the multifarious activities of the school
during the year. Then followed a much anticipated prize distribution,
watched with avid interest by proud parents of the prize-winning students.
Gp Capt Sachdev presented the prizes. The Station Commander brought the
function to a delightful close with the distribution of sweets to all
students.
