President
Visits Tripura
President,
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam visited Tripura on October 4 to lay the foundation
stone of Multi Fruit Processing Unit, the first of its kind in India,
based on the freeze dry technology indigenously developed by Defence
Food Research Laboratory, Mysore. The President was associated with
the project in the capacity of Principal Scientific Adviser to
Government of India.
During
his one-day stay at Agartala, President also inaugurated the
Tele-medicine Unit at Govinda Ballabh Pant Hospital, Agartala. The
unit has been installed in collaboration with Care Heart Foundation,
Hyderabad. This would herald a new era of specialist health-care in
Tripura starting with thoracic surgery at affordable cost and
state-of-the-art diagnostic centre in all major specialities.
While
interacting with students, the President stated that Tripura is a
state full of natural and human resources and has potential to become
one of the most prosperous states of the country. He exhorted the
youth to generate more production.
