Project Setuk
Lt
Gen A K Puri, Director General of Border Roads Organisation
(BRO), visited the HQs of Chief Engineer project Setuk in
Shillong recently. During his visit, Lt Gen Puri also
addressed a press conference where he highlighted the role and
details of the major construction projects being undertaken
for development of the north-eastern region.
Talking about
the project Setuk which looks after the infrastructural
development in South Meghalaya, South Assam and the state of
Tripura, he lamented that militancy was badly affecting the
progress of the construction of fencing work along the
Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura. The North Eastern Council
(NEC), the nodal agency entrusted with co-ordinating the
infrastructural development of the North East, including road
construction, has entrusted BRO with laying of nearly 3400 kms
of road of which, 2800 kms of formation and 2200 kms of
surfacing was completed, he added.
Among other
significant achievements of the project is the resurfacing of
Agartala Air Field Works without disrupting the regular
flights and construction of two accommodation projects for
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in the high-insugency areas of
Tripura. The DGBR maintained that the organisation has
expanded to be one of the country's premier and most
sought-after construction agencies.

Conference
The
Air Chief Marshal A Y Tipnis inaugurated the annual Eastern
Air Command (EAC) Commanders' Conference at Shillong.
Commending the laudable role played by the Eastern Air
Command, the Air Chief emphasised that while aircraft,
equipment and systems give capabilities, the actual winning
factor would be the human being. The intelligence, imagination
and ingenuity of the human mind would really make the
difference. And towards this end, development of human
resource was a key area in the Air Force, he said.
