Friends In Need

One of the key necessities in Kashmir Valley today is giving pace to the developmented activities here. The Government, under operation Sadhbhavana has entrusted the Army with the amelioration of some of the most backward villages of Kashmir where the people have been suffering from the wreath of Pak shelling. The Army executed this Operation under the leadership of Lt Gen JR Mukherjee, GOC 15 Corps. Brig A Mahajan, DDEME, 15 Corps and Col Jasjit Singh of the Army Development Group (ADG) formed a part of the executive body which carried out this civic action project.

Under phase-I of operation Sadbhavana, seven villages in the districts of Kupwara and Baramullah were chosen where the Army took various steps to improve the living conditions in these villages. For instance, village Jabri has been provided with a community development centre equipped with a TV and satellite receiver, a medical health centre and indoor recreational facilities. Ahagom in Pulwama district is another model village adopted by the Army under the aegis of operation Sadbhavana. Today, Ahagom is the envy of the Valley, boasting facilities very few other villages in Kashmir have.

In Machhal the Army conducts medical camps frequently as the state civil doctors refuse to work in this backward village. Veterinary camps are also being conducted here.

The scope of operation Sadbhavana has expanded to include more villages and additional facilities in some of the villages already adopted. The Army hopes to make operation Sadbhavana a symbol of peace and development.
