The
Army Units under an Armoured Brigade (the Roarkey Risala)
embarked on a bid to explore various regions of Garhwal
Himalayas in a multi-event integrated expedition. The event
was conducted under the aegis of Army Adventure Wing, Army
Headquarters. The expedition included trekking, cycling, white
water rafting, skating and motor cycling. The expedition was
flagged off on September 25, 2000.

Divisional Commander flagged off the expedition.
A large number of civil and military officials and school
children from local schools were present for the function. At
a colourful ceremony, the teams took part in the march past
and Maj Gen Sood took the salute. Brig AC Chopra, Commander
Roarkey Risala welcomed the general and the guests and briefed
the audience on the conduct of the event. Maj Gen Sood wished
the Director, Col Devendra Kapur and all members of the team
good luck and encouraged them to
carry on the spirit of adventure. The ceremony culminated with
an impressive band display by bands of 4 Guards and other
local units.
The expedition
commenced with the launching of the trekking leg, covering a
distance of approximately 150 kms, along the difficult and
virgin valley of Birahi Ganga and Alaknanda. The team was led
by Maj Jagdish Singh Chouhan and comprised 20 members.
