NCC Group Commanders' Conference

 

 

The annual conference of Group Commanders’ and State representatives of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh Directorate of National Cadet Corps was held recently in Chandigarh. The conference took stock of various training, adventure and other activities organised during the last year and discussed the execution of all planned events in the current year. Principals of various schools and colleges of the region also participated in the conference.

In his inaugural address, the Deputy Director General, NCC, Brig RK Mehra called upon the Group Commanders to ensure all precautions for the safety and security of the NCC Cadets at firing ranges and during training camps. He stressed the need to provide proper clothing and uniform to the cadets as it instills a sense of pride, dignity and equality among them.

Brig Mehra lauded the concerted efforts by the Group Commanders for imparting training to the cadets and for carrying out all other activities as per schedule.

Expressing his gratitude to the State Governments for their full support for the cause of NCC, Brig Mehra apprised the State representatives of the problems faced by NCC, specially with regard to inadequacy and untimely release of funds, deficiency of staff in NCC Units and Group Headquarters.

A unique activity of the NCC Directorate this year was the Cadets' visit to Kargil Sector where operation Vijay was launched by the Armed forces last year. Another remarkable achievement for the Directorate was that it won the athletics trophy this year for a third consecutive year. It's cadets bagged 6 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze medals.

Prizes for various activities held during the last year were also given away by Brig Mehra. Group HQrs Shimla topped the list of honours by winning 3 trophies for best cadet, best naval wing and for national integration awareness. It also jointly shared the Inter Group Championship Banner with the Ambala Group which also won the cultural trophy. Rohtak received 2 trophies for drill and line and flag area while the best Air Squadron trophy went to Amritsar.
