A
‘monsoon’ health campaign was inaugurated by Mrs Mathilda Ghandhi,
President, AFWWA (Regional) at Headquarters Western Air Command (WAC)
Subroto Park, New Delhi. The two-month campaign conducted between August
and September, this year saw the participation of all family members of
Air Force personnel within WAC. The camp was launched on the same day at
all Air Force bases of WAC.
Speaking
on the occasion, Mrs Ghandhi said that the aim of the camp was to educate
the women and children on the services available, conduct a compre-hensive
check-up for early detection of disease and to maintain individual medical
cards for future follow-up. The drive was extended to all children in the
primary section of the Air Force Schools. More than 15,000 women and
children participated in the camp.
The facilities made available during
the camp were curative services, antenatal care, immunisation, laboratory
services, physiotherapy, ECG, eye test and dental check-up. During the
camp, the personal history and the immunisation status of each individual
was recorded followed by a detailed physical examination. Specialist
referrals were advised in many cases. Health cards were issued to all
participants.
The camp also aimed to create
awareness amongst people on about obesity, hypertension, diabetes,
ischaemic heart disease, harm of smoking, vaccination, prevention of
sexually transmitted diseases, safe motherhood, hygiene and sanitation.
The health camps have been well received at all airbases within WAC.
