Partnership Prospers

Tata Infotech in partnership with the Computerised Inventory Control Project (CICP) of the Army Ordnance Corps has completed the inventory management and MIS project of the Army. CICP is one of the premier IT projects of the Army. Integrated inventory management application has been developed by Tata Infotech using sate-of-the-art Java Enterprise Beans (JZEE) technology. The pilot phase of this project has more than 1500 screens and is one of the largest projects in terms of expanse and functionality using JZEE technology.

Implementation of CICP has ushered in a new era of automation of activities akin to ERP in the Army Ordnance Corps, the materials managers of the Indian Army. Modern material management techniques have been incorporated in CICP which would result in enhanced transparency, asset visibility and customer satisfaction. CICP system brings in substantial savings through reduced inventory carrying costs and accurate provisioning. The project also results in reduction of paper work in the Army, faster response to operational requirements of the field, effective logistics support and effective MIS and decision support system for commanders in chain.

Tata Infotech has undertaken execution of the systems integration project on turn-key basis. Teams of software engineers and systems integrators of Tata Infotech along with domain experts in the field of materials management of CICP worked tirelessly for the past two years to develop and implement this robust and user-friendly system.

To facilitate the use and enhance the customer satisfaction, features such as "touch screen" digital images of inventory and interactive voice response system (IVRS) have been provided. Hand-held terminals have been used for receipt, warehousing and stock taking activities in the system resulting in saving of time. The project is an excellent example of a successful mission through partnership between the industry and defence.
