Sep Owais Mustafa, a soldier of 647 Mujahid Battalion, Pakistan Army who was in Indian custody, was handed over to Pakistani Rangers during a flag meeting at Suchetgarh. Indian Security Forces had apprehended Sep Owais Mustafa when he strayed across the LoC in Rajouri Sector, reportedly after he deserted his unit.

A request for his repatriation was made by Pakistan's DGMO to his Indian counterpart during a telephonic conversation on June 4 last. Consequently, a decision to repatriate Sep Owais Mustafa to Pakistan was taken on humanitarian grounds. Sep Owais Mustafa was handed over in the presence of doctors from both sides.

Earlier on two occasions, the Indian Army released Pak Army personnel in similar circumstances. On June 14, last year, L/Nk Mukarram Hussain was repatriated at Suchetgarh. Similarly on January 15 last, Nk Hakim Khan was handed over to Pak authorities in Kutch Sector.
