Ready for Soldiering

 
 

One hundred-and-thirty young Gorkha recruits were attested as soldiers at a colourful and an impressive attestation parade held at the 58 Gorkha Training Centre's Parade Square in Shillong.

Of the total recruits attested, 66 belonged to 5 Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force) and 64 to 8 Gorkha Rifles. Col RS Langeh, Commandant, 58 Gorkha Training Centre reviewed the parade and took the general salute. The recruits took the oath to serve the country with sincerity and dedication and pledged to make the supreme sacrifice for the nation when called upon.

Col Langeh also gave away the prizes to the recruits who excelled in various aspects of training. The trophies for the best recruits were given to Santosh Shrestha and Bharat Kumar Chand of 5 GR (FF) and 8 GR respectively, while the prizes for the best in drill, sports, physical fitness and firing were bagged by recruits Tirtha P Gurung, Yam Bahadur Pun, Dil Kumar Ghale and Dipak Kumar Khadka (LMG), Ashok Kumar Thapa (INSAS rifle) respectively.

Later, addressing the jawans, Col RS Langeh congratulated the newly attested soldiers and lauded their performance and best turnout in drill. The parade was witnessed by the officers and jawans of the regiment along with their families. A large number of local people also witnessed the parade with enthusiasm.
